Please see our site, midipedals.com for more information!

Here is some of the information and Internet links I have collected
about making your own set of MIDI bass pedals.

These links show step-by-step diagrams, photos and have a wealth of information about building your own set.  Please let me know if there are any links that have expired or do not work.  -TCG

Links - Forum posts, personal web pages:

orchetect.com  - Steffan Andrews's very informative page.  This is where I got most of my information to make mine.

The Organ Forum post - Organ players (mostly) posting about their wishes and experiences with DIY MIDI pedals

DJB MIDI Bass Pedal Project - A builder's step-by-step process of the project

International Organ Foundation  How to build a MIDI pedal board

Parts:

basyn.com - They sell completed pedals (not your run of the mill looking bass pedals) as well as a MIDI kit (which I have used and recommend).  The gentleman who runs the site actually uses them in his Yes tribute band.

bjlevine's eBay store - If you prefer to order from eBay, the folks at Basyn also have an eBay store.

My first set of pedals from the video.

  • Before I installed the guts into a case, I had to chop the IC board because it was way too long.
  • After the cut, I had a pretty big piece left over.
  • Completed without the lid.  I have since added some tolex-type material anda carrying handle.
  • The red arrow deonotes the spot the MIDI, AC, on/off switch and expression pedal port that I can access with the cover off.

This is the second set I made for my bass playing buddy, John.  I dubbed these Model JCR11.  They are a set of Fatar pedals I bought off of Craigslist and rewired them. They use a Basyn MIDI interface.  Fortunately, I did not have to make a case for the top.  I just drilled a few holes to accomodate the MIDI interface's buttons and ports.
